Upcoming Gigs for Feb ’10

Electronica, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Nerdcore, Upcoming Gigs | Posted by admin January 28th, 2010

This list for Upcoming Gigs for Feb ’10 seems to be very filled with hip-hop, which is great cause I have been in the hip-hop mood lately. I am really looking forward to finally seeing P.O.S. after a few years of listening to him and always missing him whenever he comes to my area. I am also looking forward to seeing STS9 again since it has been awhile since I have seen them. Also, I think the show reviews posts will be only done when I feel it is necessary and not for every show. Expect a RRR later this week. Enjoy!

I forgot to mention that in the first Upcoming Gig post that these gigs would be gigs I would hopefully be taping. If I do end up making it, the recordings will be posted in one of my future RRR posts. I will also update any of these gigs if more information comes out including gig posters and I will also add any more gigs that I am interested in seeing if they come up later on. I am also thinking for next year of adding bands that are taper friendly to this monthly list. If you have any ideas please let me know. Here is the list for December:

Recently Released Recordings #2

Downloads, Hip-Hop, LlaMA, NES Rock, RRR, Rock, Wrock, Youtube | Posted by admin November 9th, 2009

It is time for another edition of Recently Released Recordings. Since my last post I have released many recordings and have done a few updates to this page. With that, I want to thank Monny of Syndicate of Scattered Thought for the new logo, bobsmith of mc chris LIVE for recommending a button maker and Courtney for helping me come up with color schemes for my buttons. I have also started to use my twitter and Facebook to post shows so feel free to add me on either of those, since I usually post on those before I post here. Without much further ado, here is the list of the shows:

So I just changed the theme of my page from the plain green to this green one. It seems to be more me then the last one. I am looking for a logo that would go for this though if anyone is up for it. I have also decided to take all of the links in the downloads page and put them into the shows page. I will delete the downloads page in a few days. Also, I have uploaded two shows that I recorded years ago. The first one is the mc chris 09-28-06 El Corazon show and the second one is Regina Spektor at The Crocodile Cafe on 4-14-05. Both the flac16 and mp3 zips links have been posted in the shows page.

Recently Released Recordings #1

Hip-Hop, LlaMA, Nerdcore, RRR, Rock | Posted by admin October 5th, 2009

So since my last post I have released many recordings. I thought it would be easier to make one big blog about all the shows I have released instead of making several smaller blogs. If I do become more active in releasing shows I may make Recently Released Recordings a weekly to bi-weekly thing (or maybe longer). Anyways, here is the shows I have released (the date next to the show is the date for the recording(s)):

01-07-06: Secret Chiefs 3 opening for Sleepytime Gorilla Museum at Neumos.

02-24-08: Secret Chiefs 3 at the 608 playing early and late sets.

08-28-08: The Goondocks playing with Beefy, ytcracker, Optimus Rhyme and MC Frontalot at the High Dive. The Beefy set will be coming out soon too.

08-24-09: Sadistik and Kristoff Krane at Nectar opening for Eyedea & Abilities.

09-10-09: Beefy opening for Kirby Krackle and 10th & Commerce at the High Dive.

09-12-09: Southside, Eli Porter and People Within at the High Dive.

Great set by Eyedea & Abilities. I did record video for this set and it will eventually go up on my youtube. I also recorded Kristoff Krane’s and Sadistik’s sets and the first one will end up on the Live Music Archive soon while the second one will either be posted here, on the traders’ den bt and/or on LMA (if he is cool with it). Those who can download torrents, the show is located here.

Edit: My computer keeps on crashing so I haven’t been able to keep the torrent going. I also am having issues with my torrent cus it says I am firewalled when I am pretty sure I am not. Since I am having issues I decided to post the zip of the show here.

Pocket Change, Water Babies, Dig the Particulars, & Joe Gould’s Secret – 2007-06-08

Concert Reviews, Downloads, Hip-Hop, Jazz, LlaMA, Rock, Youtube | Posted by admin June 28th, 2007

I love many things about taping, but one of things I hate the most is the weird fans/concert goers that I meet at the shows. This show has one example of such occurrence. During the first act, Joe Gould’s Secret, I noticed the fan that I am going to talk about. At the time, he was just relaxed and not bugging me or anyone else. During Dig the Particulars’ set, his attitude changed a little bit (more than likely due to alcohol). I was filming their set and he came over a few times to dance around me and even peek over my shoulder to see what I was capturing. I pretty much just ignored him and let him do his thing.

It was during the Water Babies set when everything changed. After they finished their first song, this guy went on stage acting like he owned the venue and tried to kick the band off the stage. Jason (the trumpet player) handled him well and told him to give them a chance. About the third song into the set, the guy came over to one of my microphones located on-stage and decided to “play” with it (he moved it around to face the crowd). I abruptly stopped him and moved it back towards the band and gave him the gesture that he shouldn’t be doing that. About a few minutes later he did it again. This time I talked to him about it. I tried to tell the guy he should not be playing with it. He wanted to know who owned it and I said that I did. He said he just wanted to play with it. I tried to tell him that I using it record but he didn’t seem to grasp that. Eventually my friend Aaron moved in and took him away from the stage to the bar. For a bit everything went OK. Towards the end of the set this guy showed up one more time. He tried to get on stage again but Jason just kicked him off this time. He decided to sit on the steps to the stage and lean his right arm on the chair that happened to have my recording bag. He had a very firm grasp on the chair and I had to watch him like a hawk just to make sure he didn’t knock over anything. Eventually, security came over and told him to leave but he wouldn’t budge. It took three security guards to pry him from the steps and kick him out the door. For the rest of the night everything went good.

As far as the music, all of the bands did a great job. The show was hosted by Kyle “KOZ” of nadamucho. Joe Gould’s Secret had a folk, almost jam band sound with a spice of hip-hop. Dig the Particulars did a great rock set. Both the Water Babies and Pocket Change played awesome jazz sets. I would definitely like to record all of the bands again (of course, I hardly miss a Dig the Particulars show so they really don’t count). The Dig the Particulars set should be up on the archive soon and the rest will end up here.
