Electronica, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Nerdcore, Upcoming Gigs | Posted by admin January 28th, 2010

This list for Upcoming Gigs for Feb ’10 seems to be very filled with hip-hop, which is great cause I have been in the hip-hop mood lately. I am really looking forward to finally seeing P.O.S. after a few years of listening to him and always missing him whenever he comes to my area. I am also looking forward to seeing STS9 again since it has been awhile since I have seen them. Also, I think the show reviews posts will be only done when I feel it is necessary and not for every show. Expect a RRR later this week. Enjoy!

Welcome to another edition of Recently Released Recordings. As with the Upcoming Gigs, I wanted to get this post up and done over a week or so ago. Alas, life caught up with me and I had other things to do. I released a bunch of recordings these last few weeks and I have been posting all of these links in my shows page so if you are impatient and want to hear some music now you can always go there before I post here. I did also add a bunch of links on that page and plan to continue that with shows that were posted a long time ago. I will also add playlists for my videos soon and post them in the shows page. Anyways, here are the recordings:

I will also update any of these gigs if more information comes out including gig posters and I will also add any more gigs that I am interested in seeing if they come up later on. Recently Released Recordings #1

Hip-Hop, LlaMA, Nerdcore, RRR, Rock | Posted by admin October 5th, 2009

So since my last post I have released many recordings. I thought it would be easier to make one big blog about all the shows I have released instead of making several smaller blogs. If I do become more active in releasing shows I may make Recently Released Recordings a weekly to bi-weekly thing (or maybe longer). Anyways, here is the shows I have released (the date next to the show is the date for the recording(s)):

01-07-06: Secret Chiefs 3 opening for Sleepytime Gorilla Museum at Neumos.

02-24-08: Secret Chiefs 3 at the 608 playing early and late sets.

08-28-08: The Goondocks playing with Beefy, ytcracker, Optimus Rhyme and MC Frontalot at the High Dive. The Beefy set will be coming out soon too.

08-24-09: Sadistik and Kristoff Krane at Nectar opening for Eyedea & Abilities.

09-10-09: Beefy opening for Kirby Krackle and 10th & Commerce at the High Dive.

09-12-09: Southside, Eli Porter and People Within at the High Dive.

Recordings released this year so far

Nerdcore, Rock, Singer-Songwriter, Wrock, Youtube | Posted by admin August 31st, 2009

So it has over 6 months since my last post. My plans for trying to get a show done about once a week didn’t really pan out well but I have managed to release several shows on the Live Music Archive and posts videos on my youtube. I have also taken down my old theme since I felt that I didn’t want it anymore and wanted to go with something simple till I can find someone whom is willing to make a WordPress theme for me. If you do have some suggestions for this site please feel free to contact me. I would also like to take the time to thanks Z of Hipster, please! for posting my nerdy related concerts on his blog. I really appreciate it. Anyways, here are all my recent shows on the Archive:

Broken Bottle Band – 2008-07-19
Fall City – 2008-07-19
Harry and the Potters – 2008-07-23
Math the Band – 2008-07-23
Matt Nathanson – 2008-11-05
Optimus Rhyme – 2008-08-28
The Pareselmouths – 2009-07-11
The Remus Lupins – 2009-07-11
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum – 2008-07-03
Uncle Monsterface – 2008-07-23
The Whomping Willows – 2009-07-11
Zero Gravity Circus – 2009-07-22

I have also released two complete sets of videos this year on my youtube. The first set is the Optimus Rhyme 2007-08-23 show and the second is My Parents Favorite Music 2007-08-26 show. These are my favorites from each set respectively:

Optimus Rhyme, Tall Birds, & TV Coahran – 2007-06-07

Concert Reviews, LlaMA, Nerdcore, Rock | Posted by admin June 18th, 2007

Good show. The show benefited Noise for the Needy. I pretty much went to this show to see Optimus Rhyme (they have to started to become one of my favorite Seattle bands). TV Coahran started off the night. Pretty good set. Reminded me of a cross between Man Man and Modest Mouse. The PA for his set seemed a little bit messed up though. Don’t know if it just the room or his setup, but something didn’t sound right (he did use a good amount of pedals). Tall Birds put on a great rock set. Just pure in-your-face Rock ‘n Roll. Optimus Rhyme played third (The Cops also played, but I left after Optimus played). I ran video for their set, but it turned out pretty dark. The audio for the Optimus Rhyme set should be up on the live music archive soon and I will post the other two sets on request.

3 Concerts in one Blog

Concert Reviews, Downloads, Indie Rock, Jam Band, LlaMA, Nerdcore, Rock, Singer-Songwriter | Posted by admin April 29th, 2007

So in the last two weeks I have seen three shows. I got behind with blogging because I still have a hard time doing this (it seems so much easier to constantly check my emails and my mypspace page, though I usually don’t get anything new in those :P ). Plus I decided to change my main blog program from Mambo back to WordPress. Anyways, I thought at first I would write three separate blogs for each concert, but decided to just do one big blog.

Melefluent & High Ceiling 2007-04-13

Great to see these two play together again. It was over a year ago that I was first introduced to High Ceiling. This is the third time I have caught High Ceiling and it was the best so far. They played a lot of their “classics” including High & Lifted, Illusions, and Water Rushes On along with a few new songs and a great cover of Pink Floyd’s Breathe. Melefluent also played a great show. Some of the songs from their set included Waiting for Change, O.C., Time Ticks By, & Chinese Eyes. They also played several covers: Judge Not (Bob Marley), Freedom 76 (Ween), and Olympia (Rancid).

Both bands played for about 90 minutes. This was my second time taping at the Eastside Club Tavern and I decided to run a different setup. My first time around the vocals ended up being a bit distant and unfortunately this time wasn’t that much different. I ran my MBHO’s Omnis split into the Warm Mod part of the R4 while I ran the LSD2 right in the middle. The vocals sound great in some parts while others they are a bit distant. Everything else in the recording sounds great. The High Ceiling recording is up on the archive (Flac16 Link) and the Melefluent set will end up here.

MC Frontalot, MC Lars, Optimus Rhyme, Beefy, and Dust Collector 2007-04-18

Great night of Nerdcore. First time seeing a lot of these artists (except for Beefy & Optimus Rhyme) and I was pleased by all of them. Dust Collector opened the show. He was different from the solo MC Nerdcore artists I have seen. Most of the MC’s I have seen had either iPods or CDs with them that contained their music, while Dust Collector had a DJ record player. He played a great 17 minute set. Beefy was next. This was my second time seeing Beefy by himself (if you want to count the two Mediocre Tour shows then it would of been the fourth). This was the best one. He set included Nerdcore for Life, Applesauce Baptism (new song), and I Don’t Wanna Be Right. After Beefy was done with his set, Optimus Rhyme came up. The played a kick ass set that included some guests appearances (Beefy came up for Sick Day and MC Frontalot joined them for Ping Pong Song) and two new/unrecorded songs (Click Click and Segmented Annelid). MC Lars was fourth. As I mentioned earlier this was my fist time seeing him and his band and I was completely blown away. His Nerdcore sound was very punk/rock and I was pulled in by the first song. I also enjoyed watching the videos that he played during the set. MC Frontalot closed the night. I have had a hard time getting into this guy as far as Nerdcore artists go in the past and this set wasn’t different. I did though get into him after the show thanks to the new CD. He opened his set with the Penny Arcade Theme and the rest of set included Hassle: the Dorkening, Secrets From The Future, and I Heart Fags. He closed his set with Nerdcore Rising, which was joined by MC Lars and Wheelie Cyberman.

For the recording I ran the MBHO’s cards NOS WMod by the board and ran the sbd TMod. The mix of the two came out really great (considering that I haven’t had a great SBD pull in a long time). I have posted a link to the Beefy and Optimus Rhyme sets at the end of this blog. Also, the Applesauce Baptism mp3 is posted from Beefy’s set.

Rocky Votolato, Slender Means, Drag the River, & Street to Nowhere 2007-04-20

Neumos has started to become the hardest place to tape a show. I know that these bigger venues do have to check before they allow tapers to come in but I think the security and staff need to come up with a plan how exactly to deal with tapers (maybe some advice from the Showbox would be great). As soon as I entered I had some problems. The security guard wasn’t able to get the OK from Rocky then but after I decided to leave the venue until I did get the clear to tape, a guy who seemed to be the head of the security asked me what I was doing. I gave him the whole nine yards about how I do this as a hobby and not for profit. He also asked me that if I was asked to stop recording that I would and I complied to it. After that I was able to get in but I did have a few hiccups during the Steet to Nowhere set (I wasn’t able to record their set due to time) with the security guards checking the taping policy. After a while they left me alone and I was able to record the rest of the night.

The parts of the Street to Nowhere set that I caught were pretty good. Hopefully I can catch them again (don’t know how they feel about taping though). Drag the River played a good set. Pretty mellow set. Slender Means & Rocky Votolato both played great sets. Rocky played a few new songs from his upcoming album and covered Plastic Jesus. For the recording I ran the MBHOs WMod NOS and LSD2 TMod Blumien for DTR & SM and ran off the board TMod for the Rocky set. The Slender Means and Rocky sets are available on the downloads page along with all the other Rocky shows I have taped.
